Waking

Awareness of half-light. Shapes dimly perceived through the gloom; eyes not quite shut.

Sore bones. Can't find a comfortable place for the ankle, can't straighten or bend the elbow; fingers stiff.

A couple of hours to go to breakfast, then ease becomes possible.

The body feels old, sore, worn out, used up.

But the mind is awake, stirring with the mischief of a child.
